Lo attendevo con impazienza, CHRISTIAN SCOTT, con il suo super quintetto: Milton Fletcher al piano, Cristopher Funn al contrabbasso, Matt Stevens alla chitarra e Jamire Williams alla batteria!
Un mese fa è uscito il suo nuovo cd " Yesterday You Said Tomorrow" e...non c'è niente da fare..questo ragazzo, quando suona, va dritto al cuore ed è già uno dei protagonisti assoluti del jazz moderno!
Questa è la sua appassionata versione del pezzo di Thom Yorke dei RadioHead, " The Eraser"
E vorrei davvero cancellare quella sempre più enorme "macchia nera" che sta uccidendo il mare e la sua vita nel Golfo del Messico....

La prima voce, quella di RACHELLE GARNIEZ, è una voce libera, senza tetto nè legge, teatrale,ironica e il suono del suo accordeon è un colpo al cuore!
Rachelle ha iniziato per le strade d'Europa e poi New York come Busker, recita con compagnie teatrali inglesi e americane e si esibisce nei più famosi locali jazz newyorkesi!

La seconda voce, quella della portoghese SARA SERPA, mi riporta al mare e alle sue vastità...il suo è un canto di sirena ....

The first voice, the one of RACHELLE GARNIEZ, is a free voice, with no borders and laws, ironic and the sound of her accordeon strikes your heart for sure!
Rachelle starts her carreer playing as Busker in the streets of Europe and lately back to her hometown New York, plays also in English and Us Theatres and performs regurlarly in the most famous New York jazz clubs!

Una delle più belle realtà nel panorama delle Grandi Orchestre Jazz contemporanee questa ORQUESTRA JAZZ DE MATOSINHOS diretta da Ohad Talmor e Pedro Guedes che ne curano gli arrangiamenti, e nata nel 1999 con il supporto del Comune di Matosinhos un centro turistico vicino ad Oporto in Portogallo!
Il primo album importante inciso nel 2006 con una delle icone del sax Lee Konitz e nei prossimi mesi suoneranno pezzi originali o standards già famosi di artisti quali Jason Moran, Chris Cheek, Carla Bley e Steve Swallow, Kurt Rosenwinkel.
In questa esibizione live all'Auditorium di Lisbona sassofono solista è il grande Mark Turner!

One of the brightest examples among the contemporary Jazz Big Orchestras ...THE ORQUESTRA JAZZ DE MATOSINHOS born in 1999 and supported from the Matosinhos Town Hall a touristic town close to Oporto Portugal.
This young Big Orchestra is directed by Ohad Talmor and Pedro Guedes who arrange all the musical stuff!

L'anima di Stefano è ragtime, è melodia italiana o francese in bianco e nero, è bossa nova, è anche "Stone in the water" dove i suoi compagni d'avventura sono due maestri danesi Jesper Bodilsen al contrabbasso e Morten Lund alla batteria!

Un affascinante incontro....

Fantasy, thousand of colors and shades, open heart, natural sympathy....all these feelings in my mind everytime I listen to the music of one of the most gifted pianists we have in Italy...Mr STEFANO BOLLANI!

Stefano's soul is, ragtime , Italian or French black and white melody, is bossa nova and now also " Stone in the water" where he plays in a multi-skilled Trio together with two danish Masters such as Jesper Bodilsen on double-bass and Morten Lund on drums!

Ultimamente ho subito una vera e propria "attrazione fatale" per l'universo musicale dell'Europa del Nord che mi sorprende ogni volta per il grande numero di bravi musicisti che riesce a far emergere ed hanno tutti un marchio ben preciso, un loro sound!
Una delle band norvegesi che preferisco e che seguo con attenzione è questo HELGE LIEN Trio.
E' uscito da qualche mese il loro ultimo album dal titolo decisamente curioso "Hello Troll" dove, nella copertina, sembrano più stelle del rock piuttosto che musicisti jazz!

Nel primo brano, tutto il lirismo del leader, il pianista Helge Lien , e una introduzione del contrabbasso Frode Berg che incanta!

Il secondo brano più moderno ma al tempo stesso antico, più ritmico dove anche la maestria del batterista Knut Aalefjaer viene rivelata!

I recently got a truly "fatal attraction" towards the so-called North Europe musical universe!
It's so rich of very good musicians everyone with his sound "trademark" and this sound coming especially from Sweden and Norway is really stunning!
One of the norwegian Band I like most is the HELGE LIEN Trio!
His new album has a curious title : "Hello Troll" and on the cd cover the 3 guys seem not exactly jazz musician but rockstars!

In the first tune, all the lyricism of the leader's Helge Lien piano as well as an enchanting double bass Intro of Frode Berg!
The second tune is modern and ancient at the same time and dynamic where even the mastery of the drummer Knut Aalefjaer was revealed!

La via Italiana al Jazz, The Italian way to the Jazz

Un pò di tempo fa Enrico Rava ha dichiarato che, pur essendoci tantissimi musicisti di talento, non esiste, tranne rarissime eccezioni, una "via italiana al jazz"...

C'è sicuramente del vero in questa provocazione.

Fra le eccezioni io ci metterei il contrabbasso che adoro in Italia, PAOLINO DALLA PORTA, che, non a caso, collabora spesso con PAOLO FRESU e GIANLUCA PETRELLA ( altre due belle eccezioni! ).

Questa esibizione in duo con il talentuoso chitarrista BEBO FERRA, mi emoziona e presenta un jazz, se non italiano, decisamente vicino alla nostra tradizione musicale, al nostro Mare! ;)

Last year or so I heard the italian trumpeter Enrico Rava affirming that even if there are various talented musicians, we don't find, except a few, an "Italian way to the jazz music" !
It's partly true what Rava said in his provocation!
Between the exceptions I'll surely include the bass player I adore in Italy, PAOLINO DALLA PORTA who, and it's not a coincidence, often plays with the trumpeter PAOLO FRESU and the trombonist GIANLUCA PETRELLA (other two beautiful exceptions! ).
This performance, that really gets me so emotional, in duo with the talented guitarist BEBO FERRA, in my opinion, shows a jazz, if not just italian, mediterranean jazz definitely! ;)

Tineke Postma l'ho "scoperta" interpretare una elettrizzante versione dello standard "BODY AND SOUL" insieme ad Esperanza Spalding ed insieme, queste due fanciulle, sono una vera forza della natura!
Tineke si divide fra gli Stati Uniti dove collabora con la batterista Terri Lyne Carrington, la pianista Geri Allen e il bassista Scott Colley e l'Olanda dove è leader di un Quartetto tutto olandese.
E' uscito il suo nuovo cd "The traveller" con il Quartetto made in Usa!
Nel video Tineke suona con Ernst Glerum al contrabbasso e una leggenda alla batteria...Mr Han Bennink!

I've "discovered" the dutch saxophonist TINEKE POSTMA performing an electrifyng rendition of the classical "BODY AND SOUL" together with Esperanza Spalding and, this two ladies together, make a killin sound!!
Tineke works in the US where plays with the drummer Terri Lyne Carrington, the pianist Geri Allen, the bassist Scott Colley as well as in her native Holland where leads her all Dutch Quartet!
Her brand new release is called "The Traveller" featuring the Us TRIO Carrington, Allen, Colley!

Sotto il cielo di Berlino il sassofonista tedesco ROMAN OTT e la sua band INNER SHAPE e il loro nuovo cd uscito a giugno, la loro "opera seconda" "Seeing People".

Insieme ad OTT completano il Quartetto originale FLORIAN HOFNER al piano, LARS GUHLCKE al basso e PETER GALL alla batteria.

Jazz piacevolissimo da ascoltare, scorre veloce e diverte! Il tocco di classe ... Kurt Rosenwinkel! ( Bellissima la sua intro al secondo brano "J & K" che ci introduce al sax elegante e sensuale di Ott! ).

Under the Berlin's sky the german saxophonist ROMAN OTT and his band INNER SHAPE as well as their brand new cd released last June, their second work, "Seeing People".

MATHIAS EICK lo si potrà sentire con il suo Quartetto al Festival Jazz di Berlino il prossimo 7 novembre!
Questo ragazzo norvegese suona oltre alla tromba anche chitarra e vibrafono.
La sua "voce" Mathias però la esprime con la tromba. Voce intimista, essenziale, molto molto lirica, fredda, così affascinante!

Da pochi giorni è partito, in Europa, il tour della Band di MARCUS MILLER con il nuovo progetto "Tutu Revisited".

Miles Davis, incise l'album TUTU, omaggio al vescovo sudafricano Desmond Tutu, nel 1986, e iniziò la sua collaborazione con il bassista Marcus Miller.

Una curiosità: inizialmente a questo progetto doveva partecipare PRINCE, ma la cosa poi non si realizzò!

Tutu è decisamente una creatura di Miller in quanto suonò quasi tutti gli strumenti, curò l'arrangiamento dei brani, ne fu produttore e inserì strumenti "moderni" come i sintetizzatori e suoni campionati.

In questa sua ultima rivisitazione ha chiamato con sè il trombettista che più si avvicina allo "spirito" di Miles...Christian Scott che qui interpreta magnificamente proprio il brano che da il nome allo storico album!

L'intro, prima di TUTU, è il brano JEAN PIERRE, tratto dall'album "We want Miles" del 1981.

The MARCUS MILLER's band tour started in Europe just a few days ago with the new project "Tutu Revisited".

MILES DAVIS recorded this album, a tribute to the south-african bishop DESMOND TUTU, in 1986, and started his collaboration with the bassist Marcus Miller.

Just a curiosity...PRINCE should join Miles and Miller in the making of but the plan didn't come true!

TUTU is a Miller's creature, in fact he played nearly all the instruments, wrote all the tunes and was the album's producer!

Miller also brought "modern" instruments such as the synthesizers and the "drum loops".

In this ultimate Tutu's reprocessing Miller called joining his band the trumpeter whose sound approaches more the Miles's spirit...Christian Scott.

Scott performs here perfectly just the tune that gives the name to this great album!

The starting Intro is the tune JEAN-PIERRE from the 1981 "WE WANT MILES" album.

Un altra voce forte ed importante, a mio parere, nel mondo del piano jazz contemporaneo, è VIJAY IYER americano di origini indiane.

Da poco è uscito il suo cd "Historicity".

Molto molto intensa questa esibizione con il suo Trio, Stephan Crump al basso e Justin Brown alla batteria.

VIJAY IYER, american born with indian origins, is another strong and important voice in the scene of contemporary jazz piano in my opinion!

His latest cd is called "Historicity".

Ieri sera ho assistito al concerto di questi 3 signori :

JOSHUA REDMAN sax tenore e soprano MATT PENMAN contrabbasso GREGORY HUTCHINSON batteria!

Elettrizzante questo concerto ed elettrizzanti questi musicisti che hanno ormai raggiunto un intesa perfetta! La potenza e il ritmo imposti da Hutchinson, il suono dinamico di Redman, il contrabbasso lirico e rock di Penman...un incontro di sensibilità artistiche intrigante davvero!
Questo è un medley di un recente concerto di Redman a Tel Aviv, il bassista in quel concerto era REUBEN ROGERS che insieme a LARRY GRENADIER ha inciso l'ultimo cd di Joshua "Compass" insieme ai due batteristi GREGORY HUTCHINSON e BRIAN BLADE!

Yesterday evening I've been to the live concert of this 3 killin musicians :JOSHUA REDMAN on Tenor and Soprano saxophones GREGORY HUTCHINSON on drum MATT PENMAN on bass! Just amazing performance! They play so beautifully together getting a perfect and absolute harmony...The power of Hutchinson's drum, the dynamic sound of Redman, the lyrical rock Penman's bass! A true charming meeting of artistic sensibilities!

Questo pezzo "PowerHouse" è energia pura e divertimento..divertimento che si nota sentendo questi musicisti suonare insieme!

Among the new projects he follows, Joe is very active in jazz scene, the recent birth of a new and young Quintet! They are terrific!!!
JAMES WEIDMAN, on piano ( he plays with Lovano also in his Nonet! ), ESPERANZA SPALDING on bass and a new trend in jazz, two drummers OTIS BROWN III ( he played with Lovano and he is now the Spalding's drummer in her Quartet ) and the cuban FRANCISCO MELA!
This tune, "PowerHouse", is pure energy and lot lot of fun, and it's clear that the musicians have fun in playing together!

TERENCE BLANCHARD non è solo uno dei più talentuosi trombettisti di oggi ma anche uno dei musicisti preferiti di Spike Lee; ha composto infatti le colonne sonore dei suoi films più famosi.
Poi, nell'agosto del 2005, l'uragano Katrina devasta la Louisiana e la famiglia di Blanchard viene colpita.
L'anno dopo Spike Lee gira un documentario inchiesta sul dopo uragano, e Blanchard compone la colonna sonora When the levees broke- A Requiem in 4 acts.
Nel 2007 esce " A Tale of God's Will - A Requiem for Katrina " , vincitore di un Grammy, una vera e propria opera sinfonica in memoria delle vittime di Katrina!
Questo brano, " Levees " è il suo struggente e disperato grido di dolore...e io lo vedo Terence, camminare lento per le vie di New Orleans con la sua tromba e il suo dolore...e anche io piango con lui...
Per tutte le vittime della natura....ma non è solo una questione di volontà divina....

TERENCE BLANCHARD is not only one of the more talented trumpeters nowadays, but also one of the Spike Lees's beloved musicians! He composed the soundtrack of all the major Spike Lee's films.
And then, end summer of 2005 the Hurricane Katrina devastates the Louisiana coasts and the Blanchard's family was directly involved!
In 2006 Spike Lee shot a documentary about what happened after Katrina and Blanchard composed the original soundtrack "When the levees broke - A Requiem in 4 Acts ".
In 2007 Blanchard released " A Tale of God's Will - A Requiem for Katrina ", grammy award winner, a real symphonic opera in memory of all Katrina's victims!
This track, " Levees " is his worrisome and desperate woe's scream ...and I can see Terence, walking slowly in the New Orleans streets, alone with his trumpet and his pain...and I cry with him...
For all the victims of the nature....but it's not only a question of Divine's Will....

FRANCESCO CAFISO ha 20 anni e può già "vantarsi" di aver suonato con WYNTON MARSALIS e la sua LINCOLN JAZZ ORCHESTRA, di aver collaborato con leggende come Hank Jones, Joe Lovano, Jimmy Cobb e di essere uno fra i numerosi e prestigiosi musicisti jazz che il Presidente Barak Obama ha voluto ai festeggiamenti per l'insediamento ufficiale alla Casa Bianca... ;)

E' stata una piacevole sorpresa scoprire la sua musica.

Ha un suo quartetto più un altra formazione che si chiama ISLAND BLUE QUARTET!

L' interpretazione di ALL BLUES di Miles è sorprendente, elegante, emozionante e quando l'ha suonata aveva 15 anni...

FRANCESCO CAFISO is 20 years old and he can already "boasts"of having played with WYNTON MARSALIS and his LINCOLN JAZZ ORCHESTRA, of his collaboration with Hank Jones, Joe Lovano and Jimmy Cobb and this year, he was among the list of many famous american musicians invited to the Barak Obama and his family's inauguration at the White House! He is currently leading his own quartet and another one called ISLAND BLUE QUARTET... Not bad for this young guy...:) !!

It was a surprise discover his sound and sure I'll keep follow him in the future years.

His version of Miles ALL BLUES is impressive, elegant, emotional and when he played this track he was 15 years old...

Ho ascoltato il suo lavoro del 2005 DEEP SONG dove cammineresti volentieri per Brooklyn con questo sottofondo musicale...;)

Inserisco nella mia playlist un pezzo "Nemesis"che attualmente continuo a sentire e risentire...

AARON PARKS lo ha composto pensando proprio a Kurt e insieme al contrabbasso di BEN STREET e la batteria di TED POOR entri con loro in una dimensione di sogno, do incubo forse, dove senti le paure e le inquietudini del nostro tempo...

Comunque sia un gran pezzo che non lascia indifferenti!

AARON PARKS composed this track just thinking at Kurt's guitar and together with the double bass of BEN STREET and drums of TED POOR you come with them in a dream's dimension, maybe a nightmare, where you feel all the fears and anxieties of our times...

Lei è per me la cantante jazz con la C maiuscola, la bravissima ADA MONTELLANICO!

La sua voce è la più originale e personale nel panorama jazz italiano ed anche se guardiamo fuori Italia...un vero piacere ascoltarla!

Meravigliose le sue interpretazioni del repertorio anche più nascosto di Tenco e di alto livello "SUONI MODULANTI" con pezzi composti da lei!

Nella mia playlist una interpretazione di un "classicone" della canzone jazz reinterpretato alla Montellanico con una band di classe....wow!

She is the Jazz Singer in capitol letters for me...the great ADA MONTELLANICO!His voice is one of the most unique and original in jazz world today!Really unforgettable her rendition of Luigi Tenco's songbook, one of the greatest poets we had in Italy!High level album of Ada Montellanico is also "SUONI MODULANTI" with original songs composed by Ada herself!

In my playlist her personal rendition of one Billy Holiday's standards together with her high class quartet, piano, bass, drums and voice..her voice!! wow!!

Altro, raro, esempio, di una musicista donna che ce l'ha fatta!Eccezionale sassofonista e clarinettista l'israeliana ANAT COHEN è sì una vera e propria virtuosa dello strumento ma non produce un suono "freddo" con pochi veri brividini..al contrario ti porta con sè nel suo vortice musicale e talvolta ti diverte, talvolta ti emoziona..una di cui sentiremo ancora parlare....teniamola d'occhio!In questa piccola chicca si esibisce in duo con il nostro più fantasioso e simpatico pianista...Stefano Bollani

Un altra sfolgorante stella...GIOVANNI GUIDI talento che il grande "vecchio" Enrico Rava ha notato e portato con sè nel suo quintetto! Poi la collaborazione con Gianluca Petrella e la Cosmic Band , il quartetto dove lui è leader fino al nuovo progetto della Unknown Rebel Band!

Mi piace la sua musica notturna, intimista, poche note ma buone....insomma ti porta lontano ! Semplicemente magico!

Another bright star in jazz world....GIOVANNI GUIDI a great talented pianist discovered by the master of trumpet Enrico Rava who called Guidi in his new quintet.

Guidi plays also in The Cosmic Band of Gianluca Petrella and formed recently a new band called The Unknown Rebel Band.

What I like in his music is the cosy, nocturnal atmoshere he creates..a few notes but good...if I dare to say! His music takes you far ....simply magic!

HIROMI UEARA è leader della band Sonic Bloom.

Mi piace il suo senso del ritmo, la sua dinamicità e gioia che esprime quando suona e nel video di oggi esprime tutto questo in duo con un altra eccellente pianista e cantante Akiko Yano.

This girl is one of those exceptions I was talking about weeks ago...simply talented and charismatic!

HIROMI UEARA is the leader of his band Sonic Bloom.

I like her sense of the rhythm, her dinamic way of playing and the real fun she communicates and in this today's video you can feel all this.

She performs here with another excellent japanese pianist and vocalist Akiko Yano.

Il Virtuoso , The Virtuoso

Il virtuoso in questione si chiama GIANLUCA PETRELLA dalla fama ormai consolidata per gli amanti del genere!
Grazie a Petrella ho scoperto quanto uno strumento che solitamente non è in primo piano possa essere così ricco di espressività ed emozionarti tanto quanto un sax o una tromba!
Fantastico il progetto musicale che sta portando avanti con la Cosmic Band composta da numerosi e bravi giovani musicisti.
Finalmente anche in Italia si riscopre la "grande orchestra jazz" ....ritmo,coinvolgimento e divertimento puro!

GIANLUCA PETRELLA is an italian "Virtuoso" of the trombone, a real star for all the lovers of jazz music!I have to thank Petrella if I discover the variety of "lyrical" expression that an instrument like the trombone can give to a listener, it's really an emotional instrument like the sax or the trumpet!What I appreciate most of Petrella is his fantastic project with his Cosmic Band composed by many other young and talented musicians!Through Gianluca Petrella's music we discover in Italy too the real "Jazz Big Band" ...pure rhythm , involvement and joy!

Donne jazz Jazzy Women!

In una band tutta al femminile ideale io vedrei RITA MARCOTULLI al piano, TERRI LYNE CARRINGTON alla batteria e al contrabbasso ESPERANZA SPALDING!
E qui apro una piccola parentesi polemica...Avrei voluto citare altri nomi e creare una vera big band al femminile ma non ne trovo tanti altri!!
C'è una vera penuria non solo in Italia di musiciste jazz che riescono a diventare protagoniste e men che meno leader di una band!

Le donne ancora oggi nel jazz diventano note solo se sono cantanti ( e ce ne sono pure troppe e parecchie clonate che cantano a turno gli stessi standards...vabbè ma questa è un altra parentesi polemica! ;) ) E le altre? Note a pochi eletti in piccoli clubs o festivals locali dove non se le fila nessuno? O veramente non ci sono tutte queste musiciste? Io non credo visto che le scuole dove si insegna questa musica sono frequentate!

Una ventata di novità in questo senso è Esperanza Spalding leader a 24 anni del suo quartetto con Leo Genovese al piano, Ricardo Vogt alla chitarra e Otis Brown alla batteria.
Anima jazz fortemente influenzata dalla musica soul, pop e bossa nova è una musicista che ti coinvolge con la sua energia positiva e il suo essere anche "intrattenitrice" (dialoga molto con il prubblico! ) oltre a possedere un vero naturale talento nel suonare è dotata anche di una bella voce !
Sarà interessante seguire questa giovane e affascinante musicista nei prossimi anni e chissà che molte altre presto possano avere la sua stessa visibilità e successo....è una grande "ESPERANZA"!!!!

And here I have to open a little polemic break...I would have wished to create a real all women's big jazz band instead of a trio but...where are womens in jazz world?
If I think of jazz vocalists there are plenty ( maybe too much and many of them so similar singing all the same songs...but ok that's another polemic break! ;) )
There is a real lack of feminine musicians becoming leader of a band but why? I'm sure there are many talents but they play in little unknown clubs or local festivals and the majority of jazz lovers will never hear them!
A real newness is beautifully represented by Esperanza Spalding leader at age of 24 of her quartet composed by Leo Genovese on piano, Ricardo Vogt on guitar and Otis Brown on drums.
A jazz soul strongly influenced by soul, pop and bossa nova, she is a great entertainer ( she dialogs a lot with her public! ), she is blessed with natural talent and a charming voice.
What I also like of her is the positive energy she can share with the audience!
It will sure very interesting to follow this young and nice musician in the next years and..why not? Maybe many other women come to visibility and success just like her....it's a great "ESPERANZA"!!!
In my personal today's playlist I add this live performance of Esperanza Spalding Quartet in San Sebastian Spain, in her terrific rendition of Nina Simone's standard "Wild is the wind"

Tra i pianisti dell'ultima generazione ecco AARON PARKS di Seattle che ho scoperto ascoltando l'ultimo cd di Christian Scott " Anthem" dove il suo tocco drammatico, rabbioso ed emozionale impreziosisce i pezzi fondamentali di questo album importante, a mio modesto parere, nell'ambito del jazz contemporaneo.

Mi è piaciuto molto anche il suo contributo melodico e struggente nell'album da brivido di Terence Blanchard " A Tale of Gods Will".

Del suo primo cd personale "Invisible Cinema" onestamente mi piacciono solo 3 brani ma quei tre brani li ascolto continuamente!!

Nella mia playlist personale inserisco una sua recente performance al North Sea Jazz Festival in trio con Matt Brewer al contrabbasso ed il fantastico Ted Poor alla batteria. Il brano è "Travelers" uno di quei tre pezzi .... ;)

Among the young musicians of the last generation the pianist AARON PARKS from Seattle is one of my favourites!
I first listened him in the latest Christian Scott's cd "Anthem" where his dramatic, emotional and raged touch makes precious this important album, in my opinion, in contemporary jazz!

I also loved Parks in his lyric and worrisome collaboration in Terence Blanchard's " A Tale of Gods will" an album that really thrilled me!

From his first personal album "INVISIBLE CINEMA" honestly I like just 3 tracks but I listen to those ones continuosly!!

In my personal playlist a recent beautiful performance of Aaron Park's Trio with Matt Brewer on bass and the terrific Ted Poor on drums at the last North Sea Jazz Festival! "Travelers" is one of those 3 tracks..;)

Paolo Fresu

Come si sarà intuito dall'impostazione iniziale del mio neonato blog la tromba è il mio strumento preferito e PAOLO FRESU ne è un interprete fra i più dotati!
La prima volta che l'ho sentito in concerto dal vivo mi colpì per i lunghi capelli e i piedi nudi poi capii che era la sua musica che lasciava il segno..La musica di Fresu mi emoziona...sempre!
Le collaborazioni che utimamente più mi hanno entusiasmata sono quelle con Uri Caine ( Things ), con Gianluca Petrella e la Cosmic Band live alla Casa del Jazz e con la geniale pianista Carla Bley ( The Lost Chords finds Paolo Fresu...un piccolo gioiello!! ). E poi con Galliano e Lundgren "Mare Nostrum" dove lo sento il profumo del nostro mare e quella dolce malinconia!
Il suo Festival a Berchidda TIME IN JAZZ website: timeinjazz.it è uno dei più raffinati e creativi dove si uniscono profumo di mare, terra e cibo e mi fatto scoprire la ricchezza e la vivacità artistica di quell'isola famosa più che altro per le vacanze dei "Vips"!

Il mio suggerimento musicale è una vera chicca dal North See Jazz Festival con Uri Caine e l'Alborada Strings Quartet ....magica fusione fra musica classica e jazz.
La forza di Fresu è proprio questa, far sembrare semplice ciò che poi così semplice non è!

Maybe you noticed that my favourite instrument as far as concern jazz music is the Trumpet and PAOLO FRESU, for sure, is one of the most skilled trumpeters!
The first time I've seen him in a live concert he had long hair and performed barefoot but soon I realized that was his music that hit me...his soulful tone getting me emotional every time!
I adore most his recent collaborations with Uri Caine ("Things"cd) , with young italian trombonist Ginaluca Petrella and his Cosmic Band ( Live at Casa del Jazz ), with the genius american pianist Carla Bley ( Lost Chords finds Paolo Fresu ...a real little musical jewel! ) and last but not least..with Galliano and Lundgren ( Mare Nostrum ) where I smell the Mediterranean Sea and its sweet melancholy!
His jazz festival in Berchidda TIME IN JAZZ website: timeinjazz.it is one of the most original and creative festivals where jazz tunes sardinian culture and food meet together.

My musical suggestion regarding Paolo Fresu refers to the last performance in North Sea Jazz Festival together with Uri Caine and the Alborada Strings Quartet...a perfect fusion of classical and jazz music!
Just like many other great musicians Paolo Fresu makes all simple what simple really is not!

Ciao a tutti!
Tutto è cominciato quando, bimbetta, guardai quell'indimenticabile e insuperabile cartone della Disney...quella band scatenata di gatti randagi e quel ritmo ...quelle note jazz che non mi hanno più abbandonato!

Comincio le mie proposte di ascolto con Christian Scott, il giovane trombettista di New Orleans, purtroppo ancora poco conosciuto in Italia, che, con il nostro Paolo Fresu, più di ogni altro mi entusiasma oggi con il suo sound vellutato, lirico, malinconico e tormentato... A 25 anni possiede un suo suono che potrà solo migliorare ed è già una presenza carismatica nel mondo della musica jazz attuale.
Il nuovo Miles? Non so, quello che penso è che la sua musica ti arriva diretta al cuore e lì rimane...e per me questo vuol dire essere uno speciale!

All happened many many years ago watching that memorable and unforgettable Disney's cartoon...that crazy gipsy cats band and that sound...those jazz tunes that never left me!

My first musical suggestion starts with the young New Orleans trumpeter Christian Scott unfortunately not so famous in Italy yet. Together with the italian trumpeter Paolo Fresu, Scott is in my opinion the most interesting musician in jazz world today...I like his silky, lyrical, melancholic and sometimes raging sound...25 years old and he already got his tone and he is definitely a charismatic presence performing on stage!
A new Miles is born? I don't know but Scott's music goes straight to your heart and remain there and, as far as concern what I feel, this means to be someone special !
